Anuradha Koirala -"Nepali Lioness"

I came across this video in Facebook and was impressed with  her amazing personality  and thought of blogging about her.Anuradha Koirala ,born and brought up in Nepal ,is a social activist, who started her daring task of fighting against human trafficking for sexual exploitation of children and woman since 1993.Ms Koirala ,who herself was a survivor of sexual violence , started her organisation with her own small house in Kathmandu Nepal which later bloomed into the present 'Maiti'.She is the executive director and founder of this rehabilitation center which is a home for thousands of rescued gals and woman ,who are allowed to stay here and trained for some small jobs until they wish to.
Ms Koirala with some  coworkers ,personally raids the brothels were the girls are arrested by the sex traffickers and also does patrolling across the border region of India Nepal where these girl children are transported across to India for sex trading and helps rescue them .On discovering  the horrifying treatment of these kids at the brothels ,where they are sexually tormented  with 30 to 40 men a day and  physically abused, she was motivated to do something for them with vengeance .Her social work  is not limited to just rescuing these girls and bringing them to Maiti ,but also treating them for the various diseases and dealing with their Physical , emotional and psyoclogical  including pregnancy ,Aids ,sexual ailments ,mental problems, etc .Most of these children would not be able to return back to their home as a result of social stigma and nonacceptance from their parents.Ms Koirala also conducts many campaigns and  awareness programmes across various places in Nepal ,creating awareness about sexual violence and human trafficking amongst the uneducated rural population. She was recently awarded 'CNN Hero' by the CNN and was awarded an amount of   $100,000 to continue her work with Maiti Nepal, in addition to the $25,000 awarded to each of the top 10 Heroes honored. This lady with a simple ,yet captivating personality ,is no doubt  a lioness in true sense.

People like Madam Koirala should encouraged to carry on with the crusade against the atrocities against women. It is saddening to read that young girls are treated very badly. Very shocking to read they entertain 30-40 men a day. Are they treated like machines.
Thanks for sharing this Raji

Hi Raji,

That was a brilliant post. We do not have laws to kill human dog's who harass women, else we could have made the Army eradicate all of them from Indian soil.

Anuradha koirala has done a good job. Each human being should understand the importance of one another and respect their feelings.

We must protest against such incidents we notice before our eyes and the ones we hear, to at least make people aware that we will be part of the crowd who are against crimes.

Let every women be a lioness as her and then would such incidents stop. I think at least 15% of the new generation respects their fellow gender and would not indulge into harassment.

Heard the news on exploiting even children at the age of 14. We could not call for a law to punish them a jail sentence for 14 years or a life time imprisonment. They should be shot dead to create examples.

You really made the day Raji. A good topic indeed to respond and remember where we are.

Congrats Raji, for bringing a thought provoking post. I have read about her too and Wish we have more like her..

Abhilash... shooting the culprits dead an is easy way out, they should be made to rot in jails so they repent and be more human to others later...

great work raji....
this posts reminds me of Dr. Sunitha Krishan who is the co-founder of Prajwala, an institution that assists trafficked women and girls in finding shelter...
and speaking about exploiting chilren at 14...there are much younger students around the age of 5-6 by relatives or even their teachers..there occurs not a single day in my life without hearing at least one such news...

@chitra even I was shocked on reading all these ill treatement towards young gals and felt sad seeing theeir testimonies.

@Abhilash society demands more energetic young men like you who could fight against not only this particular cause but many such other social crimes .Thanks for your opinion abhi. But shooting them dead is soemthing beyond limits though ..

@stranger thanks .Yes I think a life time deadlock imprisonement is the best way .They should suffer till death.
