When the limits are crossed!!!

Hello readers. You may be wondering "what limits are crossed??"Well ..i will explain..yesterday afternoon, I finished my lunch  and started wondering "what do i do next?"other than the usual television and laptop stuff. So then I remembered the ice cream boxes in my fridge .I just got them the previous day and they were missing me so much.I thought let me taste how  they are ,and started with one flavor, the"raspberry" and found it a little sour..but still manageable. Then i thought i should taste the other flavor, that is the snicker's cream and fudge.Hm...that was delicious.I had 3 scoops and then felt it was too sweet ,so again i switched to the raspberry to neutralise that affect. So then my scoops went on increasing ;believe me I had a total of 8 scoops !
That time i just thought of writing this post ,"why do we eat beyond our limits?"we would have finished our full fledged meal ,still we would have an extra "self created space for a dessert".We would know we are full, still we continue on and on with that extra heap of potato chips /french fries/or we Indians on the "golgappas".We would not have had anything else as a substitute for  those particular food stuff we ate;I mean, that could not have been covered up by the regular meal .Have you all noticed that when we are sitting idle and donot have any work/when bored or we are in front of the television,we start eating some stuff beyond limits without  our knowledge. The "Hunger "quench is fulfilled ,this quench is something beyond that. Its so strange. Is it that our taste buds have a control  over our mind/is it some sort of a hormonal reflex? We are aware that those extra "carb's and fats" are bad for us ;still we go on and on.....crazy right?

Intellectual activity increase stress--a factor known to stoke appetite--it can also trigger swings in your glucose [or blood sugar] levels," So, this is your intellectual stimulation.

True stress triggers insulin release ,which inturn controls ur glucose levels.Iam speaking about "no stress"factor here SG,its just those "extra"what we eat when we are idle /bored.I think even that is related to the insulin levels infact i guess....

I eat more when I am frustrated or depressed. When I am happy, I don't feel the need to eat.

Yes even i heard this that people eat a lot when they are sad or frustrated.

There was a time and age when one could eat whatever one wanted to. In my younger days we never knew or even bothered to know what was dieting, and we never used to put on weight despite eating anything and everything to our heart's content.
But in the last 30 years or so, with the advent of so many gadgets to help in our everyday activities, we have become very lethargic, with jobs also just requiring us to sit for hours in front of the computer has added to our woes.
We become bored and stressed easily, and given to eating as a diversion.
Sometimes it is our own strict views about dieting , that makes us lose control and we given to indulgences and temptation.
Every thing is okay as long as we are able to get back to our routine of keeping ourselves mentally and physically active. For what is life if we cannot indulge once in a while.
Now with the growing tendency of young people getting hear attacks and strokes, it is very important we took care of ourselves.
We owe it to ourselves.

Forget the science.Boredom and depression leads to over eating.Sweets are tempting.Like all other temptations,we have to fight it.But then, life is once.I remember someone having said
" Life is short, eat dessert first"
Once in a while, you can have some breaking rules.Otherwise life will be monotonous.
Have sweeter days ahead!
p.s. Don't quote me "as a doctor said"..

Hi Raji,

It is a very interesting topic for discussion. I have also experienced it and I would like to mention the things I did to let me get rid of this.

1. Intake ample amount of water before and after every meal.
2. Eat 5 to 6 times a day with minimum food ratio. This would be difficult to adjust when we say minimum but once it is practiced, we will get rid of the heavy eating.

I am following this schedule and I do not eat much or feel hungry to try a dessert.

I think there is no harm in going on a binge once in a while. But not regularly. After all we need to enjoy life is it not?

Interesting post! I believe that I have my control in my mind, but most of the time, I let loose. Like A, even I eat more when I am depressed, don't know why:)
